Comet Shipping, Micura and NPA Seal Semi-Final Spots at 2025 Maritime Cup

Comet Shipping Triumphs in Opening Match as 2025 Maritime Cup Kicks Off in Style

Defending champions Comet Shipping, 2010 winners Micura Services Limited and three-time champions Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) have all secured their places in the semi-final stage of the ongoing 2025 Ships & Ports Maritime Cup Competition.

The qualifications of the three teams were confirmed after two fiercely contested matches played this afternoon at the NPA Sports Ground, Surulere, Lagos.

Comet Shipping and Micura Services advanced from Group A, finishing as group leaders and runners-up respectively, while NPA progressed from Group B as the dominant force in that group.

NPA underlined their strength with a commanding 4–0 victory over fellow Group B contenders LTT Coastal in the first match of the day.

The emphatic win ensured they topped the group with ten points from four matches, having secured three wins and a draw in their campaign so far.

The second match saw defending champions Comet Shipping fall 0–1 to Micura Services.

Despite the setback, Comet maintained their grip on the top of Group A with nine points from four matches.

Micura’s well-earned victory lifted them to eight points, securing the second quarter-final slot from the group.

Attention now turns to the fourth semi-final berth, which will be decided tomorrow when five-time champions Nigeria Customs Service face the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) in a highly anticipated Group B encounter.

Both teams are level on six points from their previous three matches, but NIMASA currently holds the advantage with a superior goal difference.

The match, scheduled for 12 noon at the NIS Pitch, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, promises to be fiercely competitive, gripping and entertaining, with both sides eager to secure progression.

Earlier in the day, Group A sides Dangote Group and the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) will meet at 9am at the same venue. With neither team in contention for a knock-out stage spot, the fixture is expected to serve principally as a formality, though both teams will likely look to end their campaigns on a positive note.
