The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) and Dangote Ports Operations emerged victorious in their respective matches on Day 3 of the 14th Ships & Ports Maritime Cup Competition, held on Friday.
In a closely contested battle, NSC triumphed over Comet Shipping with a 2-1 victory. The game began with intensity as NSC’s striker, Chukwu Benjamin, opened the scoring just 10 minutes into the match, putting his team ahead.
However, Comet Shipping responded 35 minutes later when Stephen Opechy struck an equalizer, leveling the score at 1-1.
The deadlock persisted until the 80th minute when NSC’s Ajadi Rasheed delivered the decisive blow, netting the second and final goal of the match to secure the win for NSC.
In the second match of the day, Dangote Ports Operations delivered a dominant performance, defeating Trucks Transit Parks (TTP) with a commanding 4-0 victory.
Dangote’s Abdul Bakare set the tone with two early goals, while Valentino Otei added the third. Ogbuka Chineyen capped off the match with a fourth goal, cementing Dangote’s emphatic win.
Both matches, initially slated for Thursday, were postponed due to heavy rainfall across the Lagos metropolis.
However, the Stable Sports Complex in Surulere provided the perfect setting for a day of thrilling football action.
As the competition progresses, the excitement builds for Monday’s clashes.
In Group A, Apapa Bulk Terminal Limited (ABTL) will face off against ENL Consortium at 9 a.m., followed by a showdown between the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and the Nigerian Navy at 12 p.m.
Meanwhile, Group B will see APM Terminals Apapa take on Comet Shipping at 3 p.m.
All three matches are scheduled to be played at the NPA Sports Complex, Surulere, Lagos.
