The highly anticipated Ships & Ports Annual Maritime Cup Competition, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated annual sporting events, will once again bring maritime industry stakeholders together when it kicks off on Tuesday, 4 November and runs through to Wednesday, 26 November 2025.

Organised by Nigeria’s leading maritime communications firm, Ships & Ports Communication Company, the tournament has grown into a cherished tradition in the maritime calendar, combining sporting passion with industry-wide unity.

The Maritime Cup, in its 15th edition, is renowned for promoting healthy lifestyles, discipline, and sportsmanship, while also offering participants and spectators alike a platform for networking and collaboration away from their usual work environments.

The competition has, over the past 16 years, enhanced communication and built stronger relationships across the maritime sector.

Speaking ahead of the 2025 edition, the Coordinator of the Maritime Cup, Mrs Oluwatosin Rotimi, described the tournament as a unifying force for the industry.

“The essence of the Maritime Cup lies in bringing our maritime community together through spirited yet friendly competition,” she said. “It’s not just about winning; it’s about unity, connection, and creating lasting professional relationships away from the desk.”

The 2024 competition, which ran from 15 October to 6 November, was a resounding success and featured 11 teams competing in three groups. Matches were officiated by FIFA-badged referees drawn from the Lagos State Referees Council, ensuring a high level of professionalism and fairness. The tournament climaxed in a dramatic final where Comet Shipping Agencies defeated the Nigerian Shippers’ Council 2–1 to claim the championship, while the Shippers’ Council finished as runners-up after an impressive campaign.

Looking ahead to this year’s event, Mrs Rotimi expressed optimism that the 2025 edition will surpass expectations.

“We’ve seen how the Maritime Cup strengthens bonds across our industry,” she noted. “This year, we expect even greater participation, heightened competition, and amplified camaraderie as teams prepare to lock horns on the pitch.”

Registration has already commenced, and interested organisations have been advised to secure their places early to avoid missing out on what promises to be another unforgettable tournament.
