Goals from Steven Maduka, Peter Omowele and Collins Otokito propelled SIFAX FC to victory in the opening game of the 2015 Maritime Cup, which seventh edition kicked off at the National Stadium, Lagos, at the weekend.
Eight teams, including National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), SIFAX, Nigeria Customs Service, Association of Nigerian Licensed Custom Agents (ANCLA), Micura Stevedoring Services, Dominion Divine Clearing Agency, ENL Consortium and Nigerian Ports Authority are participating in the competition this year.
The Maritime Cup is a yearly football competition, which brings agencies and companies in the maritime sector together to compete for the coveted trophy.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chief Executive Officer of Ships & Ports, Bolaji Akinola, described the tournament as an event that helps operators in the maritime sector to bond together in a convivial atmosphere.
“We provide the environment that makes the players and maritime industry workers excited while competing among themselves. It also gives them the opportunity to build friendships that create a better working environment,” he said.
In the second match of the tournament played at NPA Sports Ground this morning, a former champion Micura Stevedoring Services defeated Dominion Divine 2-1. The next match will be played at 4pm today at the same venue between Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and ENL Consortium.
